A club, not a school
How a flying club works
A flying club is a group of pilots who share the cost of owning airplanes. It isn't a business that sells lessons or rentals to the public. Here's how that compares with the other ways to fly.
| Indy Aviators (flying club) | Flight school | Owning an airplane | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who flies the airplanes | Members only | Any paying customer | You |
| What you pay | Initiation, monthly dues, and member hourly rates | Retail rental and lesson rates | Purchase price plus every fixed and repair cost |
| Who it's run for | The members | The business and its owners | You |
| Training | Members train with instructors who are also members | Structured lessons sold to the public | Bring your own instructor |
| Maintenance surprises | Shared across the membership | Built into retail rates | All yours |
| Community | Fellow member pilots | Instructors and other students | Mostly on your own |

Our story
He wanted to fly as a kid. He finally learned at 39.
Founder Robert Brack grew up dreaming about flying, but training was out of reach for his family. When he finally started lessons at 39, his business background showed him a better model: a flying club, where members share the cost of well-equipped airplanes and fly them together.
Guided by his faith, Robert built Indy Aviators to make flying accessible and predictable for students, new pilots, and experienced aviators in central Indiana.
